The Psychedelic Mumu

So my oldest sister and I entered a challenge to see who could upcycle a dress the best. We picked out the most horrendous dresses we could find at Deseret Industries and set to work. I apologize if any one wore a dress like this at one point it must have been in style, but now resembles a some what fitted mumu. So here is the original dress screaming all the glory of its former hippy life.

Yes, those are neon yellow, green, and pink flowers you did see correctly

And the butt shot :)

Oh, don't forget the blue fans and butterflies!

To fix the dress I cut eighteen psychedelic inches of fabric off the bottom and made a one inch hem. I tried to salvage the sleeves, but it was impossible. So instead I seem ripped around the arm hole until the sleeve came off. Then I hemmed the sleeve a quarter of an inch thick. The next step was to update the baggy style by removing the sash (which I simply cut off). I took in both sides at the seem by about and inch and a half and sewed the very large arm hole up another inch. Adding a thick black belt and blazer I toned down the blinding  orange fabric, and strolled around Valentines Day feeling very sassy and bold.

Total time: 1 hour and 30 minutes   Price: $6.00
